Family Hands-On Adventures and Time Travel in the Donnersberg
There’s plenty for young and old alike to experience. First and foremost is the popular family hands-on adventure “The Secret of the Mine Treasure.” Together with the two mine explorers, visitors will get to the bottom of old tales for what will be the penultimate time. After three completely sold-out seasons, this popular interactive spectacle is coming to an end. “The Secret of the Mine Treasure” is already sold out for the summer break.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t visit the Maria Mine on July 19. In addition to the family hands-on adventure, regular guided tours of the visitor mine will also be offered that day. And you won’t want to miss them: The mine guides take guests on a journey through time in the Donnersberg, exploring centuries of mining history. A unique feature of the Maria Mine are the two “tunnel floors” situated one above the other, connected by a 15-meter-high shaft. Regular mine tours can be booked by calling 06302 / 60261. Exclusive "Gruben-Paul" Medal as a Reward
There will also be plenty more to do around the Grubenhütte during the summer fun event on July 19. For example, a hands-on obstacle course that tests your dexterity. Anyone who completes all the stations will receive an exclusive Gruben-Paul medal as a reward. The miner “Gruben-Paul” is the mascot of the BergbauErlebnisWelt Imsbach. You can participate in the interactive obstacle course even without booking one of the guided tours.
In addition, guests can pan for gemstones and have a chance to win a prize on the wheel of fortune. Young visitors can make balloon sculptures, get a glitter tattoo, design treasure chests for their gemstones, or paint a bag for their gemstones. Minerals will also be available for purchase.
Anyone who’s that active both above and below ground is bound to get hungry and thirsty. No problem: The local community’s support association provides refreshments in and around the mine hut.
Unique Minerals from Around the World
The Palatinate Mining Museum in downtown Imsbach will also be open on July 19. From 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., visitors can not only learn about the history of mining in the Palatinate but also enjoy a fascinating overview of unique minerals from around the world in the special exhibition “Terra Crystallum.”
And last but not least, it’s also worth hiking around Imsbach to explore the area’s mining heritage. Circular hiking trails lead past old mines, offering magnificent views and encounters with relics from nearly 2,000 years of history in the forests. Thanks to the informational signs, there are frequent explanations and visual insights into what was mined and discovered on the Donnersberg. By the way: The mascot “Gruben-Paul” explains mining to young visitors on the signs. This makes it ideal for family hikes.
